Demo duality

I hardly watch broadcast television, but I enjoy paying attention to the advertisements when I do. I think it’s interesting to look at television channels not by the programming, but by the advertising around it, and which demographics are targeted by that advertising, in effect, seeing which demographics tune in for the show, or who the network curates the show for.

On another note, I find it weird that there seems to be a sort of brand duality in the various products offered. I’ve seen two similarly named brands of varnish cleaner: Amish Secret and Dutch Glow. I’ve seen two similarly named brands of anti-arthritis cremes: Australian Dream and Blue Emu. And I’ve seen two similarly named brands of roll-up animal dolls: Hideaway Pets and Ball Pets.
