What’s on the menu?

Sometimes at restaurants, I like to imagine that the world is a philosophical mesh of nearly identical beliefs in different packages, all promising more or less the same thing, and that foods, drinks, shows and commercials on the bar television, and any other branded goods around the place, are quasi-religious promises of sensual awakening or peace, by various competing gods, battling for my attention and momentary worship. Then my food arrives.
